Paci Weaning

It's that time. I have been dreading it, but at Luke's well check on Monday our pediatrician told us it was time to start weaning Luke off the paci.
Today was our first day, we are starting with just limiting it to the crib, which means he only gets it when he sleeps (not the car, not when we are out and he is fussing,- just when he sleeps). He did really well, no melt downs and when he asked for it, I just told him that he was a big boy now and didn't need it. He seemed to understand it because he would just look at me and walk off and go find a toy. We even went and ate dinner at a restaurant tonight and he didn't need it at all.
I think it is harder for me than for Luke. It has been with us since the beginning- we got one at the hospital and ever since we were addicted. So for now we are on the path to no paci and being a big boy.
I am planning on letting him have it when he sleeps for a while- bc eliminating it while he is awake is a HUGE deal. Maybe in a month or so we will eliminate it at night, but I think that is going to be even a bigger battle because he uses it to put himself to sleep.

Goodbye Paci It has been fun (and you were a huge help)!

Pray that I survive and stand strong the next few days- I think as he realizes that this is the new reality things might get tough for him (and me)!

  1. I just stumbled on your blog, but we are doing the same thing at our house right now! I had to cut the pacifier, because I didn't have the guts to take it away from my daughter. So now she keeps telling me it's "bwoken" and I want to cry! It's been almost a week and things are going WAY better than I expected.

I feel your pain and hope things go well for you!
